“Success is where preparation and opportunity meet.”

Esperanto the annual sports meet 2017-18, aimed at focusing on preparation and providing opportunity to all students of SFS Academy to excel in the area of sports and physical education. Many talented students took part in the event and were able to display their abilities to the fullest. Esperanto began in September 2017 over a period of 40 Days. Competitions and group activities consisted of kho-kho, basket ball and throw ball and the athletic events ranged from running events, high jump, long jump and shot-put. The preliminary rounds as well as the finals were attended by the principal Rev. Fr. Soby Thomas. The selection process for all athletic events was handled by the Physical education instructors and leap start instructors before the final main event.

The final ceremony and athletic events of Esperanto 2017-18, Annual sports meet was held on 24th November 2017. On this day junior and senior athletes assembled at the SFS School ground for the main event and prize distribution program. Rev. Fr. Jijo Manjackal was invited as the chief guest on this occasion. Prayer song was sung by the school choir for the program. Faculty of SFS Academy welcomed the chief guest- Rev. Fr. Jijo Manjackal and our principal Rev. Fr. Soby Thomas for the prize distribution ceremony.

SFS Academy sports flag and house flags were hoisted by the school head boy Master Amnon Mathew and head girl Miss. Shreyashree. The school follows the 'house system' to conduct various co-curricular activities. The four houses present in this system are named after constellations viz Griphon- Yellow house, Phoenix- Red house, Cygnus –Blue house and Centaur- Green house. Each of these houses aim at instilling various core values to its students.

Chief Guest Rev. Fr. Jijo Manjackal gave a short address regarding the importance of sports and co-curricular activities. He narrated few of his own experiences that made the students of SFS Academy relate to him easily. He was most encouraging and joyfully throughout his speech.

Post all athletic events, the closing ceremony was conducted with great enthusiasm as the athletes assembled on the school ground for the report of the meet and prize distribution. Mrs. Diana C V read out the consolidated report of the meet ESPERANTO 2017-18. Prizes were distributed by our chief guest who congratulated and encouraged all students for their efforts. The faculty of the department of Physical education announced the overall individual champions Master Vishwa (Blue house/ APJ Abdul Kalam house) and Ms.Harini (Blue house/ Cygnus house) representing senior level sports and Master Amos (Yellow house/ Griphon house) and Ms. Abhijna (Blue house/ Cygnus house) won individual championships at junior levels. The overall ‘best house trophy’ was bagged by Yellow house/ Griphon house. The annual sports meet ended with the school choir singing the national anthem for the closing ceremony as representation of the love, respect and admiration SFS Academy has towards its mother nation- India.
